The dot SE country-specific TLD was created in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very small number of domains were acquired. Individuals could get solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish persons, businesses and organizations were able to book a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.
